Stanpit Marsh Visitor Centre

Stanpit Marsh Visitor Centre was commissioned by Christchurch Borough Council with the aim of creating a community building for a popular nature reserve, suited to the location's SSSI status.
Offering easy access to its facilities for all users, the simple structure  comprises a covered deck area for observation and a timber clad cylinder housing exhibitions, an office and staff toilet.
Conceived as a low environmental impact building, the design maximises natural daylight and materials, featuring: composting toilets, photovoltaic panels, a small wind turbine, rainwater harvesting and untreated FSC timber. The building generates its own energy and is, in effect, carbon-neutral.
